Hummus is ridiculously easy to make! Once you make it yourself, with just a quick whirl of the few luscious ingredients in the food processor, you’ll never buy the inferior stuff at the supermarket ever again. It’s healthy, it’s delicious, vegetarian/vegan, AND it can be changed by adding so many different kinds of alternative flavors. We love it as is, but we change it up by adding mashed black beans (1 can, rinsed), sometimes roasted red peppers, maybe roasted garlic, toasted pine nuts, or any herb that’s calling our name in the garden.
8 cloves garlic, minced
4 cans organic chick peas/garbanzo beans
1 cup lemon juice (not bottled, use the real deal)
8 T (1/2 cup) Tahini
1/2 cup water
4 teaspoons salt
1 tsp crushed red pepper
Combine in food processor until desired texture is achieved. Keeps in fridge in a tightly covered container for about a week. I like my hummus with a bit of texture, but if you prefer the creamiest consistency possible just microwave the garbanzo beans/chick peas for one minute before processing.
